Hello there!

For over a year and a half now, I’ve been striving to maintain a healthy eating and exercising regimen, which has led me to lose quite a bit of weight that weighed down on my confidence and self esteem for years. There are times now and then when I do struggle and indulge in junk food or have a little too much fun out drinking but I’ve learned to not punish myself over it and just keep going. Health and fitness is such a big part of my life these days that it dawned on me that I don’t talk about it enough on here! You’d think that something so important and that’s such an integral part of my life would be mentioned all the time, right? So that’s where I got the idea to spice things up a bit and add a new layer to this blog with “Health & Fitness Fridays”!! 

This idea of mine has literally been months in the making. I’ve wanted to get this series off the ground in the summer but when I started getting sick in August, those plans were pushed aside and I had to take some time away from the blog. I have some more stuff to get done in order to be 100% again and leave all of this in the past for good but I knew I could no longer put this off from sharing with you guys!

I will be discussing a variety of topics on health and fitness (based on experience) as well as some helpful tips. I want to keep it fun and entertaining to show that health and fitness doesn’t have to be a chore but more so a great lifestyle change experience! And that if I can do it then so can you πŸ™‚

 No makeup, no extensions, just me right before a workout πŸ™‚

I’ve been working out at home since I started. I believe you can get just as good of a workout at home as you can at a gym. It’s cheap and you can sweat and make funny noises as much as you’d like because no one’s watching! πŸ˜› I also go out for runs around the block. I’ve been lucky enough to live in a neighborhood that has really nice trails so there really is no excuse to not go out and enjoy it! To get this series started, I wanted to fill you guys in on what I do on a weekly basis. I’ve touched on my tips for losing weight but that has been pretty much it.So, let’s get to it..

My Weekly Workout Routine

Over time, I’ve learned that variety is key when you’re just starting as well as when you’ve been in the game for a while. I’ve dealt with my own issues of not seeing results where I’d like to see them, so I’d push it and do exercises focused on mainly those areas. By doing this, which I thought was the right thing to do, actually had the opposite effect. I had overworked those areas and made them bulk up when that wasn’t what I was trying to do. I started to understand more about fitness that you really can’t spot treat an area and if you want to lose weight in your thighs (my trouble zone), you need to target the whole body in order to start seeing results. And another thing I learned was that you need to spice it up because once you start doing one kind of work out (i.e. weights) and keep at it for a while, your muscles are going to start to expect this routine and in the end won’t be changing and helping you diminish fat. So, here’s a basic idea of what I do during the week, but I’m always changing things around and editing out and putting in different exercises/workouts to keep it challenging.  I prefer working out right when I come home from work and in the morning on the weekends. It’s all based on your personal preference πŸ™‚

Monday: Jillian Michaels Extreme Shed & Shred (Both Levels 1 & 2)

Tuesday: Day Off

Wednesday: P90X Back & Biceps + Ab Ripper X

Thursday: Insanity Max Interval Plyo

Friday: Day Off

Saturday: Insanity Max Interval Circuit + P90X Ab Ripper X

Sunday: 5km run around the neighborhood

My Daily Meals

These cookbooks are awesome for helping you create simple yet deliciously healthy meal ideas!

Now that you know my exercise routine, I’ll fill you guys in on how I add to that with my eating. I’m not going to lie to you and say that I don’t indulge in sugary sweets from time to time because it’s not true. I let myself indulge on the weekends but always monitor how much of it I’m consuming. If you don’t have a day for indulgence, you will go insane and that causes a lot of people to quit and give up on everything they’ve worked so hard to achieve. During the week, I like to keep focused and eat very well. Here’s a breakdown of the usual meals and snacks I eat every day and it’s not a recommended guideline for everyone out there because there are those special circumstances that will require something different (i.e. food allergies, health concerns, etc.).

Breakfast: Green tea & Special K Satisfaction Cereal or Weight Watchers English Muffin with a scrambled egg white.

Snack: Fibre One Peanut & Caramel Bar

 A couple salads I’ve had for lunch. It’s good to mix things up so you don’t get tempted by something else!

Lunch: Mixed greens salad with either tuna or grilled chicken (white meat) and loaded with veggies like carrots, peppers, cucumber, tomato and I top it off with some fat free Italian dressing. I also like to sprinkle a bit of a low fat four cheese blend on top.

Dinner: Chicken & Brown Rice Stir Fry

Snack: Green tea & Small Fruit Bowl

So, there you have it! I worried when I first started whether I could keep this up and thought that I was going to exercise to a certain point (my goal weight) and finally stop and eat kind of like I used to. But as I went along, I started to realize this was best for my body and I could never give up on something I’ve worked so hard on. With eating healthy and exercising regularly, it never stops and that’s why it’s called a lifestyle change. You can’t expect to lose weight and then go back to the same thing you were doing before while thinking that you’ll be able to maintain that weight. You’re living in fantasy land if that’s what you think! πŸ˜› You have to keep going and not let moments of weakness get to you. 

There will be hurdles along the way but it will only make your mind and body stronger when you look back at those times and feel that sense of pride knowing that you didn’t throw it all away for a slip up. And since getting sick in August, I’ve definitely had my battles with food and exercise. It’s been hard to not justify a cookie or two (or in my case 3 or 4) when I’m feeling like crap and it’s been tough to even work out as much as I normally do but those are the times when I’ve had to dig deep and push through it as much as I can.
