This year, I've really been trying to step up my skincare routine. I've been feeling like my skin has changed its appearance lately and to prevent any further aging, I've been going on a big skincare shopping binge. I haven't really posted much about skincare so I wanted to bring you guys up to speed on the skincare products I've been using lately. Since the temperature has dropped drastically and my skin has had to adapt to it, my routine has had to as well. I've swapped my summer skincare faves for the following products to help ensure that my skin gets the treatment it needs to help get it through this dry, bitter season!
Marcelle Soothing Cleansing Water
I've tried more oil-based makeup removers and this one is my favourite! It doesn't irritate my eyes, which have been really sensitive lately, and doesn't leave behind any residue. My skin feels soft and ready to be cleansed. I've used makeup wipes before to do the job of removing my makeup but Marcelle's Cleansing Water always gets the job done quickly!
Clarins Cleansing Milk for Dry Skin
I like using this cleanser for a really deep clean and it also really helps to add moisture to my skin. I don't know what it is but my skin has been getting really dry lately so I currently use this to help soothe it and it works!
Shiseido Benefiance Wrinkle Resist 24 Softener
If I'm going through my complete routine, I will apply this "toner" next but if I don't have a lot of time, I'll just pass on it. I like that it has added anti-aging benefits which is a plus for me these days. It's really soothing and leaves my skin ready for the next step.
Lancome Genefique Serum
I've often skipped this step but find it very useful these days. Serums like Lancome's Genefique help smooth out the skin and work on fine lines. The skin is left feeling more nourished and taken care of. I've been seeing a difference in my skin when I use a serum compared to the days when I don't.
Garnier Ultra Lift Day Cream w/ SPF 15 /Olay Total Effects Night Firming Creme
I tend to be more flexible with my day/night cremes. I don't like my skin getting too used to one thing especially when I don't find it to be an amazing product. I always try to make sure I'm wearing a day cream with some SPF in it and Garnier is a nice one to use because the smell is quite refreshing and the cream goes on not too thick. The pump applicator helps squeeze out ever last drop.
Clinique All About Eyes Cream
Aging around the eyes is a major concern for me so I always make sure to put on eye cream. This one is light weight and soaks into my under eye areas to help diffuse lines and soothe my puffy morning eyes!
St. Ives Apricot Scrub
St. Ives Apricot Scrub has quite a fan following and I'm one of them because this exfoliator always manages to remove every last bit of dead skin from my face. I feel like my skin is all baby smooth after using it and helps prep it for the whole routine I go through. I love the smell, it feels so refreshing and the exfoliating beads don't feel abrasive on my skin either. I always have extra dry skin in the winter so this one really helps with that!
Aveeno Body Lotion/Olay Quench Plus Touch of Sun Body Lotion + Gradual Sunless TannerAveeno is such a great brand for sensitive skin, allergic reactions and for soothing and healing and helped me out extremely when it came to my horrible skin itching episode that lasted for a couple months. I use Aveeno on the days when I'm not applying Olay's Touch of Sun Moisturizer. With Touch of Sun, I can still get that summer glow without looking too extremely tanned with a self tanner. I do put on self tanner here and there but it's not as frequent as before. I get a great glow without having to see my pasty skin underneath and it looks very natural while keeping my skin nicely hydrated.
This list of skincare products I've been using may seem like a long list and I know you might be groaning at the thought of going through this kind of routine but believe me, your skin will thank you for it! You may think you might not have that extra 10 minutes or whatever to get this done but really, the time you have left to help take care of your skin and treat preventable aging concerns cannot be brought back. What you do now with your skin will tell you how you're skin is going to look later on.
So, no matter what age you are, it's never too late to get started taking care of your skin and making sure it's the best it can be even when you're 80 :) I think the next big skincare item I will be purchasing is a Clarisonic brush, but since the holidays are coming up, I'm thinking of adding it to my Christmas wish list ;) What skincare products are on your holiday wish lists?
What's your current skincare routine like?! I'd love to get ideas or suggestions for great products to try!
