Health & Fitness Friday: New Year, New You!

About Me, Fitness, Health, Health and Fitness Friday

Hi Guys!

Every new year, we begin with a set of goals or resolutions to accomplish. It is definitely going to overwhelm you if you set really big goals for yourself and you haven’t got the slightest idea of how to get there. This is when doubt sets in and you end up calling the whole thing off only a couple months or so into it. We’re already into March and even if you haven’t started getting into shape for the summer or whenever you’ve set your end goals for, you’ve still got time to get started! Here are a few tips that have gotten me through the last few months

1. Got a busy day ahead of you and don’t know when to fit in a workout? Try waking up early and do whatever you can. Whether it’s an hour long run around the neighborhood or just 30 mins of cardio with a fitness dvd, try not to think of the limited time you have as not amounting to anything in the long run. It’s exercise and better than doing nothing! Your fitness goals will seem easier to handle when you know that even with a tight schedule, exercise can always be fit in.

2. Go, go healthy eating gadget! We all are glued to our phones these days and one of the best ways to stay on track with what we’re eating is to download an app that helps you keep tabs on what you’re eating and how much. I like using the app called Lose It! I can easily scan the barcodes of the food I’m about to eat to monitor my progress throughout each day so I’m aware of my calorie intake limits and I can also add in workouts that I’ve done which give me an idea of how many more additional calories I can consume because of how much I burned!

3. Buddy up with someone who has the same or similar fitness goals in mind so that way they won’t let you give up on yourself and vice versa. If you’re around someone else who is motivated, you’re going to be less likely to become lazy and let go of your goals. I also like following fitness people on Instagram who keep me motivated to stay on track and they also help give me ideas for meals, different exercises and the way they look is a HUGE motivator for me that pushes me to want the same physique.

4. Make fitness outfits fun! One of the things that I’ve really come to love is buying workout clothes! With so many athletic clothing stores at arms length for everyone, workout gear is becoming more and more popular. The styles have changed, the colours have expanded compared to what it used to be. You don’t have to exercise in sloppy sweat pants when you can buy cute tops in pastel or neon shades, as well as sports bras with funky designs and pants that make your legs look gooood! I’m also becoming OBSESSED with workout sneakers! I love how they’re becoming more function-customized and shaped to protect and enhance the feet’s performance. There are so many brands creating sneakers in fun colours and formats. I really look forward to wearing my workout gear because it’s fun to look cute when you exercise and it really helps to boost your confidence ๐Ÿ™‚

5. Spice up your workout routines! Over the past few months, I’ve felt a little bored with playing the same exercise dvd’s over and over again so I went out and bought a few things to use in my workouts to make things interesting while still giving me one hell of a workout that I can always expect to get. My husband and I own a punching bag stand that has arms for directed punching/kneeing. It’s great for getting the heart pumping and the sweat forming. It really helps build up my upper half, which I haven’t really tried to focus on before so it’s been a great challenge in that way. We also have a nice exercise bike that I love using since I don’t own a regular one. Unlike a regular bike, mine lets me know how many calories I’m burning, the distance I’ve biked, the time I’ve spent on the bike and my heart rate. What’s fun about an exercise bike is you can get lost in it while watching TV or listening to music. You can close your eyes and really get into it and before you know it, you’ve been on the bike for an hour! Spice up your routine by adding something new that you find fun and challenging rather than something you’ll lose interest in and thus lose results.
This is the bike I have at home! It’s a pretty affordable price and gets the job done!
My motivation lately has been my Spring wardrobe. I have too many clothes right now that I have shopping bags scattered around in my closet that desperately need to be emptied! lol I’ve bought a lot of skinny jeans, stomach baring tops, short shorts and skirts that I want to look good in. And bikini season is not too far away either! ๐Ÿ˜› I’ve had my ups and downs this year and I make those 5 tips, along with my new wardrobe, my motivators for staying focused on my goals. I hope you guys are trying to stick this out with me. We CAN do it!
What are some of your fitness goals for the year? Are you on track to achieving them?
