Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eyeshadow Review and swatches for Metallic Dusty Rose, Vintage Black Gold, Metallic Laurel and Metallic Lavender

High shine, metallic eyeshadows with a foil finish? Yes, please! That’s what I said to myself when I saw these at Sephora. Stila’s Magnificent Metals Foil Finish eyeshadows can be worn as a light, sheer shimmer or full-on opaque metallic so everyone (and every comfort level) can get in on the foil finish action!

The Magnificent Metals come with a deluxe Stay All Day Liquid Eye Primer for long lasting adhesion to the lids. The colours I bought were Metallic Dusty Rose, Vintage Black Gold, Metallic Laurel and Metallic Lavender, which are 4 out of the 12 eyeshadows in the collection.

How to Use Them:

  • Add two drops of eye primer to mixing tray.
  • Add a small dab of Magnificent Metals to mixing tray.
  • Swirl primer and shadow together.
  • Use the tip of your finger to gently press mixture onto center of lid.
  • For a bold, high-metallic finish, build intensity with additional layers.

I felt kind of like I was in science class when I was mixing the eye primer and shadow together. I started by adding a couple drops of the primer to the mixing tray and dabbed my finger into the shadow to pick up a couple good flakes, then used the end of one of my shadow brushes to mix up the formula to get a liquid colour result. I found that the more I played with the ratio (primer vs. shadow), the more opaque it became because at first it was quite sheer.

After mixing them just right, I got the above results which were really metallic looking and had that foil finish. These eyeshadows are AMAZING to wear on a night out because they really make your eyes stand out. I got the idea to use these to create fun “Vegas Show Girl” looks and I’ve been able to do just that. You might find that it can get clumpy in areas but it can be smoothed out with the right amount of primer.
However, the major problem I had with these shadows was how ripped off I felt about the primers they came with. They’re definitely not deluxe in size and out of the four primers that came with each of the shadows, only one was half full at the most. Two were empty and the other had a quarter of primer left in it. I would highly recommend that if you buy these to skip the primer included and use your own. There are a ton of liquid transformers out there that you can use to create that wet, foil finish or you could use a cream which will make the shadows more creamy and opaque. You can also add some of the shadow on top of colour already put down on your lids for a pretty, softer effect.

Even though I wasn’t too happy about the primers, I still want to buy the rest of the colours available. I really like the formula and overall effect it adds to all my makeup looks!
