Christmastime really isn’t just a season, it’s a feeling all of us get when we see the season’s first snow fall, smell a crackling fire while cozying up beside it with a cup of hot chocolate, but the main feeling I think we all can relate to is knowing that we get to spend it with the people we love most. I decided to create a “12 Days of Christmas” series this year to focus on all of the great things about the season.
This is a tag I found out about through blogger Milk Bubble Tea‘s site. Halloween and Christmas are pretty much neck in neck when it comes to being my all-time favourite holiday. Halloween allows me to explore my artistic side through makeup and pushes me outside of my comfort zone and showcasing it on here, while Christmas allows me to reflect on more family traditions and lifestyle posts.
1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?
My absolute favourite Christmas movie ever is National Lampoons’ Christmas Vacation. I also love the Home Alone movies and I’m also a major sucker for Lifetime Christmas movies! Pretty much every night beginning towards the end of November, I will scour Lifetime and Showcase for their nightly Christmas flicks. I love the cheesy love stories they build around the holiday and always put me in a good mood.
2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
Opening presents on Christmas morning has always been a tradition of mine. If the present needs to be opened on Christmas Eve in order to be used properly (like pajama’s), I’ll open it then but I just love the anticipation of opening everything in the morning.
3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
My favourite Christmas memories would be from when I was a child and believed in Santa Claus. I remember waking up in the middle of the night and tip toeing down the stairs to sneak a peek at the stuff he left out for me. I also had a bad habit as a youngin’ with tearing open a small part of each package to take a look at what it was before Christmas came around and then putting it back down with the exposed side facing down!
4. Favourite festive food?
I love having turkey and all of the old fashioned fixings that go with it. It’s amazing comfort food and the fact that I only have that meal on Thanksgiving and Christmas makes it even more of an anticipation to have.
5. Favourite Christmas gift ?
I loved getting the limited edition set of Wizard of Oz character barbie dolls. I ended up popping the heads off and ruining it in the end, but it would have been quite an amazing collector’s item had I kept everything in the box!
6. Favourite Christmas scent?
Baked apple pie, baked cookies, a burning fire – those signify Christmas in every way!
7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
I make it a thing every year to watch National Lampoons’ Christmas Vacation every Christmas Eve. I try to get a good night’s sleep every Christmas Eve but that never happens, which I think is the case for most of us!
8. What tops your tree?
A twinkling star! I like something that adds to the light show spectacle I enjoy setting up with my tree. As long as the tree topper sparkles and shines when the lights are off, that’s what I want!
9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?
I really wanted a ride-on power wheels car when I was kid. I imagined myself driving to school in it and showing it off to everyone. Unfortunately the dream never came true but I would probably buy one for my kids, just not let them drive to school in it like I wanted to!
10. What’s the best part about Christmas for you?
Being with my family is the best part about the holiday. My extended family lives in Ohio who I try to visit as much as I can during the holidays but won’t be able to see this Christmas. Being with them really makes me get into the holiday spirit because it is a big thing for them. Even though I don’t have much family here in Canada and it’s more laid back with all of us, I hope to pass on the passion and love for the holidays with my kids.
I challenge you guys to try out this Christmas Tag for yourself and reflect on your favourite holiday memories! It’s nice to get your mind off of all of the shopping that needs to be done and think about what the season truly means to you and how it has impacted your life.
Stay tuned for more from my 12 Days of Christmas series!
