As a big fan of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Eyes liners, hearing about the new Aqua XL eye pencils and its huge range of vivid shades that come in 5 different finishes, got me unbelievably excited. Then seeing them in person at Gen Beauty back in May got me even more excited because I got to take a couple home with me. Fast forward a few weeks later and I have 7 of these fabulous liners to share with you guys today!
Available in 20 shades, the Aqua XL liners are an artistic collection of super pigmented and long lasting shades that feature matte, diamond, satin, iridescent and metallic finishes. They’ve been tested by makeup artists and used under water, on stage and on camera to guarantee long lasting performance.

The Aqua XL eye pencils offer an extra long (XL) formula that includes a blend of ingredients like flexible resin to promote long lasting results, vegetable wax for consistent colour payoff, and a revolutionary dry oil that locks in the colour to make it water resistant. The pigmented colour comes from translucent crystal copolymer gels which help amplify the colour intensity as well as brightness. They also offer a smooth and creamy application due to the emollient oil and micro-spherical silica they contain.
Bottom Row from L-R: M-40 – matte pastel pale yellow, M-30 – matte pastel pale green, M-26 -matte pastel blue, M-22 – matte cobalt blue
What really made me excited for the launch of these eye pencils was the gorgeous promo photos with Charli XCX, who wore the matte pastel green and yellow in the shots and that sold those colours for me. As you can see in the swatches above, the pencils are really creamy and soft. When I started to swatch them, a few of the tips broke off which left a few like the black, yellow and green to look a little smudged in the photo. That was a little disappointing since it was a waste of product I could’ve got a couple good uses out of. However, once I put those pencils on, they did not want to get off my skin! It took a good scrub to get the colours off which really proved to me that they’re waterproof and budge-proof. All of the colours don’t take much to really shine bright and pigmented. I love the pastel colours because I don’t have anything like them in my collection and they are a lot of fun to wear! Just keep in mind that you may have to sharpen a couple sooner than you’d like. But if you want budge-proof, long wearing eye liners in a multitude of really cool shades and finishes, I highly recommend the Aqua XL eye pencils!
