Fall 2017 Makeup Trend Worth Trying: Wine Me Up

I’m slowly starting to embrace fall trends as summer starts to quickly come to end. Summer is my favourite time of the year but there’s something about the changing colours in leaves, buying the first hot fall drink of the year (NOT a fan of the PSL), wearing more layers during the day and wrapping myself in my comforter as opposed to tossing it off because it’s just too damn hot for that. I especially love seeing where makeup trends are going every season and what the IT shades will be. One of the fall 2017 makeup trends that I think is very much worth trying is all about the colour wine.

I recently received Avon‘s new A Box, a curated box of themed Avon products, that was filled with products in the divine wine shade. It contained 5 products that included the True Color Lipstick in Vamp, a plum toned wine with a satin finish, Big & Daring Volume Mascara in Black, True Color Pro+ Nail Enamel in Midnight Plum, True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Romantic Mauves, and True Color Glimmersticks Eye Liner Diamonds in Sugar Plum, a sparkly plum.

The True Color Lipstick in Vamp ($6.99 / 3 g / Available now at Avon.ca) is a plummy wine with a satin finish that’s infused with jojoba oil, vitamin E, collagen and lanolin. True Color Lipsticks keep your lips feeling moisturized and conditioned even after you take it off. The True Color Glimmersticks Eye Liner Diamonds in Sugar Plum ($5.00 / 0.28 g / Available now at Avon.ca) is a plum with rosy purple sparkles that defines eyes with creamy smooth colour and just a bit of sparkle in a retractable pencil.

The True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Romantic Mauves ($12.00 / 5 g / Available now at Avon.ca) is a colour coordinated set of saturated shades that help you get a quick, effortless look that’s complimenting on every skin tone. The shadows are crease proof and true to colour, and the compact features a mirror and dual-ended applicator.

The Big & Daring Volume Mascara ($7.99 / 10 ml / Available now at Avon.ca) comes with 24 hours of dynamite volume that’s clump-free, smudge-free and flake-free. It comes with a curved brush with multi-level patented bristles and a plumping complex in an innovative creme-gel formula. The True Color Pro+ Nail Enamel in Midnight Plum ($4.49 / 12 ml / Available now at Avon.ca) is a deep creme plum that features up to 12 days of lasting power with a high shine finish that resists chipping. The formula also increases the strength of your nails by 80% and is free of formaldehyde, toluene and phthalates.

Fall 2017 Makeup Trend Worth Trying: Wine

Wine plays up hazel eyes very well due to its purple tones which is why wine is always a shade I gravitate towards in the fall and winter. It’s dark but not too dark and colourful without being too bold. I can easily wear this colour to work or to an event. Even though these shades are more plum than wine, I still like how deep and dramatic it is to wear. The eyeshadow quad is such a great neutral mauve palette to wear for work because the colours aren’t that dark but the 4th shade in the compact has a bit of sparkle in it that is still easy to blend and wear during the day or night. I’m not the biggest fan of really full and thick wands but the mascara does apply pretty well and builds pretty thick lashes very quickly. The nail polish is a hit for me because it applies really smooth and opaque with a nice creme finish that really shows off how dark the plum is. If you’re looking to wear trendy colours and fabulous formulas, Avon’s got it going on!

Awesome Beauty Hacks You Need in Your Life from Avon

Who doesn’t love a good beauty hack? A good hack can shave off time and energy spent on doing other things, like being on Instagram or binging on Netflix. I’m always on the hunt for new gadgets and tools that make the makeup process smoother and faster. So when I was introduced to a few new and really cool items from Avon, I quickly realized how they were quite awesome beauty hacks and had to share it with you guys!

Avon seems to be pulling out all of the stops this year when it comes to expanding their product line with really cool and modern products. Take the Beauty Tool Organizer ($15 / Available at Avon.ca) for instance. It’s a very cute organizer that keeps your vanity clutter-free. It’s made with flexible plastic that keeps your tools standing upright and easy to reach. It can hold brushes and tools of all shapes and sizes and the base and top plastic holder can be separated for easy cleaning. This is a great hack for preventing powders, creams and other products from dirtying up your vanity or other surfaces. It holds a lot of brushes and different tools so when I’m looking for a certain brush, it’s all right there instead of rolling around on a table or in a makeup bag. Genius!

You know when you have your go-to brushes that you like using for multiple things but it gets a bit frustrating to have to clean off the product that’s on it so you can use it for something else? The Brush Cleaner In A Tin ($12 / Available at Avon.ca) is all you need to quickly clean off your brushes and continue using them. It removes powder pigments from your brushes with just a simple sweep over the dry sponge until the pigment is removed. This hack is perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to use a lot of brushes while doing your makeup. Why bother when you can simply clean off your fave brushes and reuse them? I’ve wasted a lot of time cleaning off brushes with makeup wipes and this is such a time-saver because it also doesn’t damped my brushes like makeup wipes do!

Be gone spider lashes! We all have those mascaras that need a little help to make our lashes look fabulous. I know for me, I get a bit of clumping on the outer corner lashes which I try to fix by adding more mascara (urg!) and don’t even get me started on how often I have to clean up the mascara that smudges onto my skin. Well not anymore thanks to the Mascara Applicator ($5 / Available now at Avon.ca). This applicator has the perfect arch that you can place around your top and bottom lashes to prevent smudging on your skin and you can use the other end to comb through your lashes and your brows to get rid of any clumps and make sure everything looks perfectly groomed. I’ve tried other mascara smudging preventing tools but this is more of a 2-in-1 hack tool because it takes care of clumps too. Everyone needs a tool like this so you’re not spending more time cleaning up mascara and making it look good. Sadly the next tool is no longer available through Avon but I think it’s such a really cool hack. The Eyelash Curler with Comb is better than your average eyelash curler because it curls AND separates your lashes. And you know how some people like to curl their lashes a bit after applying mascara? This can lead to them looking like a clumpy mess but that doesn’t happen when you use this tool. It keeps all of the lashes separated and looking fresh to death. So if you like making sure that your lashes are curled and voluminous, no matter if you apply mascara before or after curling, you need to pick up a tool like this.

The mark. Pout Vinyl and Velvet Lip Paints are a 2-in-1 product that includes primer and vibrant, pure pigments. Feeling like something a bit glossy? Or do you prefer to wear mattes? There’s something in this collection for both preferences!

mark. Pout Vinyl & Velvet Lip Paints Review

The Pout Lip Paint’s are more intense than a lipstick and more saturated than a gloss. The Pout Vinyl Lip Paint‘s offer a high-shine finish while the Pout Velvet Lip Paint‘s have a matte finish. And let’s talk about colour; these paints come in four shades each that range from neutral to boldly delicious and all it takes it one slick of the wand to get full, opaque colour.

My Glittery Thoughts:

Avon and mark. have come out with some great lipsticks and lip products before but these ones felt like a step further into brighter, more unique shades. I love how they have two different sets so if you’re more of a gloss person, or if you like mattes, you won’t miss out. Both the vinyl and velvet are very easy to apply and one coat gives full-on colour. I like the pointed applicator which allows me to both line and fill in my lips. The velvet’s aren’t transfer-proof and might leave you with a little colour on your teeth after you apply it, so I just blot it (with the cute mark. napkins I got!) when I’m done and that fixes that issue. I LOVE the bold shades with Fantasy and the darker purple hues. Unfortunately there are only four available of each right now and I hope they will eventually expand on these because they are so much fun to wear. The size of them is a bit small but for $10 bucks a pop, I think it’s worth it be since you can really have fun with it and buy another when you run out.
