Every time I head to Walmart, I always take a stroll through the makeup department. This stroll always includes a stop by Hard Candy, which has expanding their line of products and there always seem to be some surprises from them along the way. Which is exactly what happened when I found this collection of unicorn and mermaid inspired makeup just before Halloween. There was not much I could do at that point but buy everything I could and I’ve been dreaming of unicorns & mermaids ever since.
From L-R: Starry Night – blue-green shimmer, Twinkle – coral pink shimmer, Fairy Wings – dark blackened purple shimmer
Hard Candy‘s unicorns & mermaids collection includes a bunch of pastel and fun shades in everything from eyeshadows to highlighters to lip top coats. And if you’re like me and are bored of seeing the usual colours in highlighters and lip sticks/glosses, this is the collection for you. The first bunch of products that immediately caught my eye were the Wet Ever Unicorn Lip Top Coats ($6 US / $8 CAD / Available while supplies last exclusively at Walmart).
My Glittery Thoughts:
They have lots of glitter in them and Starry Night applies a bit more sheer compared to the others, but they’re fun to wear over lipstick to create a fun glittery lip. They dry down quickly, feel really comfy and light weight so they’re great for layering. Twinkle is perfect for anyone looking for less glitter and more shimmer in their top coats.
From L-R: Prism – white with opalescent shimmer, Aura – light purple with pink and blue shimmer, Moonbeam – light sea blue with green shimmer, Stardust – light pink with soft opalescent shimmer
The other items I picked up were the Just Glow! Illuminating Liquid ($6 US / $8 CAD / Available while supplies last exclusively at Walmart), liquid luminizers that will make your cheeks, or anywhere you want to apply a cool highlight, pop with an ethereal glow.
My Glittery thoughts:
It comes with a nice nail polish-like wand that makes for easy application and the colours are beautiful. You can apply them anywhere or mix them into your moisturizer or foundation for a glow that even unicorns would be jealous of. They’re also very buildable but I found that Moonbeam is the most pigmented from the get go, so you only need just a tiny bit of it to give your skin a pretty mermaid goddess hue. They also set really quickly, so don’t waste too much time with applying them where you want them.
If you can still find them at your local Walmart and you love colour and like trying new things, the Unicorns & Mermaids collection is worth every penny!

A couple months ago, I shared some new Hard Candy summer 2017 collection products but that didn’t even cover half of what they’ve launched for the summer. I’ve got the new NEW scoop on more products that Hard Candy has released this summer!
Hard Candy has had one of the biggest summer releases this year with new products for pretty much everything from base and setting makeup to lipsticks and liners.
The Sheer Envy line has expanded with a new colour correcting serum, powder and loose finishing powder. The Sheer Envy Color Correct Cushion Wonder ($6.98 / Available exclusively at Walmart) is a colour-correcting serum/concealer that instantly provides weightless colour correction for any skin concern. The product comes in four shades which include Yellow, Peach (seen in this review), Lavender and Green. The tube comes with a cushion applicator so there’s no need to use a brush to apply it. The Sheer Envy Color Correct Perfecting Powder ($7.98 / Available exclusively at Walmart) is a sheer, luminous powder that mattifies and sets your makeup while correcting any discoloration. The pastel pigments were designed to neutralize, balance and correct uneven complexions. “Baking” your face is a hot trend that has been going strong for a couple years now and is a makeup artist technique to prevent creasing and give your under eyes a natural radiance. Sheer Envy Bake, Brighten & Set Loose FinishingPowder ($6.98 / Available exclusively at Walmart) comes in the shade “Banana”, a pale yellow shade that compliments a lot of skin tones and will quickly give you a perfect, long lasting look.
Next up is eyes! Hard Candy has a lot going on this summer in eye products. To make you look extra this year, there’s the new Look Pro! Metal Eyes Chrome Eyeshadow Kit ($8.98 / Available exclusively at Walmart). The kit comes with four highly pigmented metallic pearl eyeshadows, a mixing liquid, a mixing well, a dual-ended brush and a mini black eyeliner. You can choose how intense you want the metallic chrome effect to be by mixing the liquid and eyeshadows together. The eyeshadows can also be worn dry for a less intense effect.
Smoke out your eyes with the new Stroke of Gorgeous Kajal Supreme Eyeliner Duo ($7.98 / Available exclusively at Walmart). This dual-ended liner offers the best of both worlds with an ultra black and long wearing liquid liner on one end and a soft kajal liner on the other.
From L-R: Wet Ever Lip Lacquer in Entitled and Lip Artiste in Coral to Peach
Lastly top off your look with one of the new lip products! The transformative Lip Artiste ($7.98 / Available exclusively at Walmart) is a lip contouring wand that is designed with a contour and highlight duo that enhances your lip shape and size. On one end there’s a matte lip colour that contours your lip shape and creates shadows and on the other end is an iridescent highlight that enhances the appearance of light on your lips. It comes in six shades which include Nude to Brown, Pink to Mauve, Plum to Berry, Coral to Peach (the one seen in this review), Red and Wine to Burgundy. If you love both colour AND gloss, the new Wet Ever ($7.98 / Available exclusively at Walmart) lip lacquer’s are a bold hybrid lip lacquer that combines the long lasting effect of a liquid lipstick with the hydration and shine of a gloss. It’s an opaque formula that is hydrating, not sticky and comes in seven shades that range from a peachy nude to a dark plum.
My Glittery Thoughts:
I am so excited that Hard Candy has launched products for all your needs, so there really isn’t anything missing. Even though this is not everything that has launched for Hard Candy in the US, it’s still a decent launch here in Canada. The setting products are finely milled and smooth onto my skin quite well. However, the loose setting powder is a bit too yellow for my skin tone and would suit people with tanned to darker skin. The colour correcting powder helps when you want to wear a lighter foundation but still need something to help with correcting discoloration. I really like the idea behind the serum/concealer cushion and the colours that are offered. The formula is very creamy and easy to blend out, however, the Peach shade is a bit too dark for my skin tone. But since I really like how it applies and the coverage, I am definitely looking to pick up the Green shade to help with my redness.
The chrome eyeshadow kit is really fun. If you’re like me and love metallics, this is a great kit to pick up. On their own without the mixing liquid, the shadows go on really well, but they have such a dynamic, glistening shine to them when you do mix them together. I love having a pop of shimmering colour on my lids and this is the perfect way to do it, especially when I want to create a smoky eye. The dual ended liner is nice because it reduces what you would normally have in your makeup bag. I like how intense the black is in both the liquid and the kajal, so this is really nice compliment to the metallic eyeshadow kit.
I love what Hard Candy is doing with their liquid lipsticks and now liquid lipstick-gloss hybrids. The plum shade (called Entitled) that I got to try out is a lot of fun to wear and is nice and opaque. There’s no stickiness, which I like, and if it’s any indication of what the others are going to be like, I’m definitely going to expand my collection with more. the lip contouring wand is an interesting product because one side has a vibrant lip liner, that’s smooth and creamy and the other side has a glittery, metallic shimmer colour. The shimmer highlight is a bit chunky, so I wouldn’t use it as an all over colour over the liner but as a lip topper over a lipstick.
I know that this is a pretty long review so I’ll wrap it up. Hard Candy is one of my favourite makeup brands for coming out with products that are on trend and easily accessible to find but will also not break the bank for you. So if you’re looking for quality face setting products, fun lip colours, and other innovative products, you need to give them a chance!

In the winter, I don’t wear as bright of makeup like I do in the spring and summer. Summer is when you can really experiment with colour and have fun with it. When I recently received a package full of Hard Candy products, they immediately reminded me of summer and I knew the fun was about to begin.
These products are not necessarily new, except for one product, but I pretty much get really excited at trying any new – to me – products from Hard Candy. The Shadow-Spheres palette in My Bright Life* ($7 / Available exclusively at Walmart) is made up of 10 shades that provide an illuminating effect and are inspired by camera filtering technology that reflects light so your eyes dazzle and look great in any lighting condition. My Bright Life contains a mix of pearly shadows and a few contain glitter. The ones with glitter perform best when they’re patted onto your eyes where there’s a sticky base to attach to. If you use any kind of fluffy brush, you will get a lot of fall out. Glitter is meant to be shown off (am I right?!), so use your finger or a flat brush to apply. Overall the colours are very pretty and vibrant, and give you tons of options for different looks to create.

The Sheer Envy Prismatic Highlighter ($8 / Available exclusively at Walmart) was actually something I bought at Walmart myself and I thought it was too good not to include in this post. It contains light reflecting pearls that accentuate the high points of your face. It might look like shimmer overload, so you’ll probably enjoy it the most if you love shimmer, but I’m a shimmer girl and I like how it makes me cheeks sparkle. Its got this lilac-blue shift to it that looks really pretty when the light hits it.
From L-R: Sheer Envy Prismatic Highlighter & Sheer Envy Pore Minimizing Primer Serum
I tried out a new primer called Sheer Envy Pore Minimizing Primer Serum* ($9 / Available exclusively at Walmart), which contains pore tightening actives and astringents that absorb oil, as well as micro fine powders that blur fine lines and colour corrects your skin tone. Even though my skin is dry, this primer serum doesn’t dry it out any further and I like that it smooths out any big pores. I get a little bit oily in the spring and summer and this has been helping balance that without giving me dry patches.
You guys know I love my brow products and the Brows Now! Fiberized Brow Gel & Highlighter* ($7 / Available exclusively at Walmart) has become one of my essential brow products. It keeps your brows in shape and tamed for all day control, as well as gives them a healthy shine that makes them look nourished. I like setting my eyebrow pencil with a brow gel and this gel has got great colour that helps fill in any spots that I might’ve missed and keeps them in place and looking good all day. Plus, It’s always nice to have an added highlighter to add underneath to make them pop even more!
From L-R: Brows Now! Fiberized Brow Gel & Highlighter in Medium/Dark, 1000 Lashes in Indigo Blue
One of the last summer treats I tried out is the 1000 Lashes Mascara in Indigo Blue*($7 / Available exclusively at Walmart). Coloured mascaras are making a big comeback and this fiberized mascara not only adds a beautiful shade of blue to your lashes but also lengthens them and adds volume. I love all of the 1000 Lashes mascaras I’ve tried because they were the first, easily accessible coloured mascara line I could ever get my hands on. They make your lashes look long and luscious, which is a must for me.
I cannot wait until Hard Candy brings out more of their new products to Canada. They’re slowly rolling them out with products like the prismatic highlighter, but there’s a ton more I am dying to try out. They always stay on top of trends and know what their customers want. If you spot a Hard Candy section at Walmart that’s loaded with new products in the GTA area, let me know!
