New & Exciting Skincare Products I'm Using Right Now

Fall is the time of year when I really love testing out new products. My skin starts to get a bit more needy, so I especially love trying out new skincare products. Here are a bunch of new and exciting skincare products that I’m using right now.

New & Exciting Skincare Products I'm Using Right Now

PIXI Beauty has introduced me to double cleansing with their Double Cleanse ($24 / 2 x 50 ml / Available at Shoppers Drug Mart & PixiBeauty.com). A unique 2-in-1 cleanser created by Caroline Hirons where one side is a solid cleansing oil and the other is a luxurious cleansing cream. The solid cleansing oil contains contains vitamin e, camellia oil and evening primrose oil, and the cleansing cream contains vitamin c, peptide complex, and arginine.

My Glittery Thoughts:

If you want your skin to feel luxriously clean, you need to try double cleansing! When you’ve put on a full glam makeup look, cleansing once usually doesn’t cut it anyways. You can be sure you’ve got every bit of makeup off after you’ve first cleansed with the solid cleanser, which really helps take off mascara and other long wearing makeup, and then follow it up with the cleansing cream which soothes and makes your skin look bright and healthy.

And when long nights and lots of makeup and products have taken their toll on your skin, try a skin detox with nia’s (not into aging) Sunday Detox ($39 / 121 ml / Available at Shoppers Drug Mart). It’s a double detox containing rich clay mousse that draws out dirt and debris from pores to reduce the appearance of blackheads and then it dries to a peel-off mask that lifts away dead skin cells to give you smooth, radiant skin. It’s formulated with NIA-114™, a patented molecule that fortifies and protects skin against the impact of lifestyle stressors, and also contains white kaolin clay, bamboo charcoal powder, mango and brazilian caja extract, lentil seed extract, and chaulmoogra, black Cumin & manuka oils.

My Glittery Thoughts:

I love, love, love trying new and different masks and this one is a lot of fun to use. A little tricky at first to use so you need to make sure you apply a generous amount to your skin so it thickens up. Then all it takes is 10-15 minutes for it to dry and then it peels off really easily and makes your pores look amazing! If you have any issues with blackheads or need something to give your pores a good cleaning, this mask will work wonders on you!

The Olay Age Defying Advanced Hydrating Gel Moisturizer ($18.99 / 50 ml / Available at Mass Retailers) is a new gel moisturizer that provides 24 hours of sheer and breathable hydration for normal skin types. It’s formulated with hyaluronic acid and b3 vitamins to give you an energized, refreshed and hydrated appearance that lasts for 24 hours.

My Glittery Thoughts:

If you’ve got normal skin that leans a little more on the oily side, you will really like this moisturizer. It’s very lightweight, refreshing and gives your skin nice, light moisture. For me, I need a little bit more hydration right now but I think this moisturizer would work well for me in the summer.

New & Exciting Skincare Products I'm Using Right Now

Treat your eyes this season with the Korres Greek Yoghurt Under Eye Priming Moisturizer ($42 / 15 ml / Available at Shoppers Drug Mart). It’s an instantly cooling eye cream that moisturizes, nourishes and primes the eyes before makeup application. It calms and soothes allergy prone eyes while strengthening the area’s delicate skin with greek yoghurt concentrate that’s rich in protein and probiotics. The moisturizer improves microcirculation, reducing fat deposits to minimize puffiness and dark circles thanks to rhodiola rosea root extract and also contains sugar beet that increases and protects hydration while controlling excess fluid build up to prevent puffiness.

My Glittery Thoughts:

When I learned about this eye moisturizer, I was told it was a popular product on Ru Paul’s Drag Race, which instantly had me very eager to try it out for myself. It is for sure my new favourite eye cream to use. It really soothes, hydrates and conditions the eyes and the cream sinks into your skin perfectly so that you can apply your concealer smoothly and easily.

Last but not least is the bliss mask a-‘peel’ complexion clearing rubberizing mask ($38 / for 3 treatments / Available at blissworld.com), a peel off mask that leaves your skin instantly clearer, cleaner and shine-free. The mask hugs every contour to ensure all of the ingredients are optimally deposited to even out skin tone and texture. To activate the mask, you need to add cool water up to the line marked on the container and mix thoroughly until the texture is smooth, then apply.

My Glittery Thoughts:

I was introduced to this cool mask last year and finally got to try it recently. It’s a bit finicky at first when you mix it so you need to really make sure that it’s mixed well before you apply it or else it can get a bit clumpy. You also need to apply it evenly to your skin so you get the rubberized effect all over. Once it’s on, it feels so refreshing and the thick consistency of it is cool to peel off after its been on for 20 minutes and has fully rubberized. Even thought the complexion clearing aspect of it is not something I find is an issue with my skin, it still brightens up my skin and feels soothing when you take it off and helps treat any little blemishes.

Discovering Kiehl's Products.. Finally!

I used to live near Square One shopping mall and on the way to Sephora, I’d always walk by Kiehl’s and be tempted to want to stop in and buy something, but Sephora and the products they had there always left me just window shopping Kiehl’s product line and not taking the plunge to finally buy something. Then when I moved further away, I kind of forgot about Kiehl’s but kept hearing so many great things about their products that it really made me wish I had bought something when the store was so close to me. So, to my great surprise, I received a big box of Kiehl’s products to discover and I really couldn’t be happier.

The PR box came with, literally, all of the Kiehl’s best selling products that they’re known for. This included their Ultra Facial Cream, Midnight Recovery Concentrate, Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, Creme de Corps, and the Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask..

Discovering Kiehl's Products.. Finally!

The Ultra Facial Cream ($63 / 50 ml / Available at Kiehls.ca & Kiehl’s stores) helps reduce moisture loss in the skin while drawing in and absorbing moisture from the air. The cream gives your skin continuous moisture throughout the day, leaving it feeling smooth, soft and looking healthy. Some of the ingredients it contains include Antarcticine (Glacial Glycoprotein Extract) (that’s sourced from Antarctica) that protects the skin against dryness and helps hydrate while giving your skin a noticeably smoother appearance as it shields it from free radicals, Imperata Cylindrica (Desert Plant Extract) helps store and retain moisture, even in the driest weather conditions, and Squalane (Perhydrosqualene or perhydrosqualene vegetal) restores the skin’s natural moisture balance to keep it very soft and supple.

The Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado ($39 CAD / 14 g / Available at Kiehls.ca & Kiehl’s stores) is a nourishing formula that moisturizes the delicate eye area with ingredients like avocado oil, a rich, fatty acid emollient that restores the natural moisture in skin, beta-carotene, a natural derived antioxidant found in carrots and contains vitamin A, and shea butter which protects skin from dehydration, improves its appearance and restores its suppleness.

The Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque ($36 / 125 ml / Available at Kiehls.ca & Kiehl’s stores) is intended to soften your skin as well as purify and minimize the appearance of your pores. It’s formulated with Amazonian White Clay that draws out oil, dirt and toxins that clog pores, Bentonite which is a colloidal aluminum silicate clay that absorbs oil and reduces shine, and oatmeal and aloe vera that help soothe the skin.

Probably the most highly anticipated product out of the bunch for me was the Midnight Recovery Concentrate ($57 / 30 ml / Available at Kiehls.ca & Kiehl’s stores), which is very well known for repairing, regenerating and replenishing the skin overnight to make it look smoother and healthier. It works with your skin’s natural nocturnal state to dramatically restore it. It contains Evening Primrose that repairs your skin barrier and enhances radiance, Lavender Essential Oil which soothes inflamed or irritated skin and blotchiness and improves unevenness to give you a brighter and more radiant complexion, and Squalane restores the skin’s natural moisture balance to make it very soft and supple.

Creme de Corps ($41 / 250 ml / Available at Kiehls.ca & Kiehl’s stores) is a hydrating, rich, and non-greasy body moisturizer that is enriched with skin-nurturing ingredients that leave the skin feeling soft, smooth and beautifully moisturized. It contains beta-carotene which contains vitamin A, cocoa butter  which softens and lubricates skin, and sesame oil, a refined moisturizing oil that absorbs easily while softening the skin.

My Glittery Thoughts:

What an amazing way to get to know a brand than to try all of their best sellers! I found out why these products are best sellers pretty much immediately and it kind of really sucks that it’s taken this long to finally try their products. Now I really know what the fuss is all about. The Midnight Recover Concentrate is my absolute favourite out of all of the products. I feel like it really adds that moisture and plumpness to my skin that I need when I wake up. The facial cream and eye treatment are both very rich and hydrating. The eye treatment especially is very thick so you only really need a tiny dab or else it takes a long time to absorb into your skin. I really like having a pump bottle for the moisturizer, so I can get what I need. Since it’s getting colder outside, I’m starting to get dry patches everywhere and the moisturizer immediately soothes and restores those areas. I don’t have any major issues with my pores but sometimes I get really annoyed by the black heads and white heads that I find. I felt like the masque was very refreshing and comfortable to wear and when I took it off, my skin still felt refreshed and my pores looked cleaner.

After trying all of these products, what do I recommend? There is something really nice about all of these products. If you get really dry under eyes, you’ll really like the Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado because it’s really thick, the Ultra Facial Cream I feel will work on pretty much all skin types. It’s a bit thick but not heavy and sinks into the skin really nicely to give you refreshing hydration. The Midnight Recovery Concentrate is a great investment if you want to add something anti-aging that also helps with evening out your skin tone. You look more refreshed in the morning after a night of wearing it, which I really enjoy. The body moisturizer and the masque are nice but I don’t use them as much as I do with the other products, so I would say to test those out in the store and find out if they are what you’re looking for. But overall, I really enjoyed all of the products and liked that they worked really well on my dry skin. I’m officially a Kiehl’s fan!

What do you think of these Kiehl’s products? Please let me know if you have any other Kiehl’s favourites that you think I should try!

Post-Winter Skin Rescue Products

Post-Winter Skin Rescue Products

Winter weather can do nasty things to our skin. My husband deals with psoriasis on his hands and arms and I get scaly skin on my hands and more redness on my face every time winter rolls around. But since spring is officially underway, that doesn’t mean that our skin is back to normal. There are some steps that need to be taken in order to replenish and restore our skin to its original state. My hubby and I have been using a few things we like to call our post-winter skin rescue products.

Post-Winter Skin Rescue ProductsWe received a few products in early March to help with our skin concerns, which included Prosacea ($16.99 / 21 g / Available now at Shoppers Drug Mart) which is a water based gel that calms redness and reduces bumps and dryness. It includes active ingredients like sulphur, which is known to diminish inflammation, and Chrysarobinus,  an agent that fights skin irritants. With both of those ingredients included in the formula, it will make your skin look smooth and hydrated in no time. I’ve been using this since we got it and have noticed a definite improvement in the red areas on my face. Now I use it from time to time to help with any redness that pops up.

Psoriasin Gel ($12.99 / 21.25 g / Available now at Shoppers Drug Mart) is another product we got to use that both Mike and I were excited to try out. It helps relieve itchy, flaky, scaly and red skin of psoriasis and helps prevent recurrences. It contains Coal Tar which is very effective in interrupting the uncontrolled cell division that results in psoriasis. The gel has a strong medicinal smell which took me a while to get used to but once I did, I started using it a lot and my hands started looking and feeling better and Mike’s hands and arms started improving as well.

Post-Winter Skin Rescue ProductsFrom L-R: Prosacea, pHisoderm Clinical, Psoriasin

Lastly, we got to try out pHisoderm Clinical for blemish prone skin ($8.99 / 225 ml / Available now at Shoppers Drug Mart). It’s a restorative facial cleanser that has a unique formula designed specifically for those with problematic skin conditions like excessively oily skin, blemishes, dry patches and chronic conditions like eczema. pH Clinical helps increase your skin’s natural pH levels significantly because it contains an exfoliating complex, BHA, which reduces oil and bacteria to improve your complexion. Both myself and Mike have been using this and we were surprised how it even helps with cleansing dry patches on our hands and his arms and keeping them moisturized.

Luckily our winter skin issues are slowly going away, but it’s good to have products like these around in case the weather changes.. and it usually does! If you suffer from the same issues, I would definitely recommend that you check these products out as well 🙂
